Tanjiro Kamado was the eldest son of a charcoal-selling family where he was living on a mountain with his family, In his family there were 5 siblings and his mother. Because of his father’s early demise, he was the one taking care of his family and helping them by selling charcoal in town. He was a very kind and helpful character in the anime.
One day, when he was out selling the charcoal in the town, he got late and stayed in Saburo’s House, Saburo was a kind elder of his village who make Tanjiro stay in his house at the night because of the demons because of their activeness in night only. The next day, when Tanjiro returned to his home, he smelled blood coming all the way from his home and when he reached there, he saw his family members lying dead except Nezuko, his younger sister which was now a demon.
At that point when Tanjiro was in horrifying state, Nezuko who was demon now tried to attack Tanjiro but he got saved by Giyu Tomioka, who was a water Hashira in Demon Slayers Corp. Giyu was going to kill Nezuko but Tanjiro stopped him and begged him to not kill Nezuko, and promised that he will find a way to cure Nezuko and will make her a human again. Giyu believed in Tanjiro’s word and sent them to Sakonji Urokodaki, a former Hashira, which helps and trained Tanjiro to become a demon slayer.
Tanjiro joined the Demon Slayers corp to heal his only survivor family member, his younger Sister, Nezuko. Somehow Nezuko still retained some humanity after becoming a demon. Sakonji Urokodaki trained Tanjiro for 2 years and help him get prepared for the final selection, to get selected in the Demon Slayers officially. Tanjiro learned water breathing technique, the same which Giyu Tamioka uses as a hashira.
After joining the Demon Slayers corps, Tanjiro got his first mission to kill a demon (Swamp Demon), who was making young girls disappear every night from the village of the northwest, the demon which was there was using blood demon art to create portal to drag the victims into a swamp-like dimension. In this mission, Tanjiro found a guy named Kazumi, whose fiance was kidnapped by the demon one night earlier before Tanjiro entry to village.
Till this first mission, it was a secret that Tanjiro is carrying Nezuko while fighting in the missions. But after this, it was not a secret, and Tanjiro was summoned by the Demon Slayer Corps leader, Kagaya Ubuyashki, also known as ” Oyakata sama”. Tanjiro was presented in front of all the Hashiras and before Oyakata-sama appeared in the meeting, Wind hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, was aggressively trying to provoke Nezuko by stabbing her while she was in her box which Tanjiro used to carry at his back while in every fight or at every time Sun is out. Wind hashira then slashed his own arm and tried to provoke Nezuko by showing blooded hand in front of her face in thought that demon can’t resist human blood and will attack but Nezuko somehow controlled her humanity and didn’t reacted on Sanemi’s blood. After that Tanjiro gave a headbutt to Sanemi which made him fall and then, Oyakata-sama appeared and acknowledged Tanjiro and Nezuko and allowed them to fight demon and continue their mission together.
